“It is good to give thanks to the Lord, And to sing praises to Thy name, O Most High.” Psalm 92: 1-2.
Years ago Oprah challenged her viewers to keep a gratitude journal. The idea was to write down five things every day that you are thankful for. I remember Oprah looking straight into the camera and saying, “This will change your life!”
Truth is truth. This is consistent with the scriptural admonition to give thanks. The challenge resonated with me and I gave it a try. I cannot say that I have been consistent with this habit; however, it has stayed with me over the years.
Something mysterious happens every time I make a gratitude list. Anxiety goes down. My heart and my thoughts are lifted to a lovelier place. The focus is taken off of myself and directed to The Resurrection and The Life (John 11:25); the embodiment of Goodness, Truth and Beauty.
My circumstances do not change, but I am changed.
